Five major types of cancer screening (lung cancer, colon cancer, stomach cancer, breast cancer, and cervical cancer)

The FR Health Insurance Organization promotes the five major types of cancer screening recommended by the government of Japan.

Employees (insured persons) having annual health checkups in Japan

Convenient: If you make an appointment on the web, optional checkup items for which you are eligible based on your age and gender will be displayed.

  • If you would like to undergo cancer screening other than that shown below (PSA, tumor markers, etc.), you may choose to do so as an optional test during your health checkup, but you must pay the entire fee for such tests.
    Please ask the medical facility where you made your appointment with directly.
Lung cancer screening
Eligible ages and checkup courses All ages and courses

  Recommended national standard: chest X-ray once per year for persons of age 40 or older

Stomach cancer screening
Eligible ages and checkup courses Advanced checkup course for persons of age 35 or age 40 or older
Checkup methods Please select a stomach X-ray or gastroscopy.

  Recommended national standard: gastroscopy once every two years for persons of age 50 or older. However, for the time being, it is also possible to have a stomach X-ray once per year in the case of persons who are age 40 or older

Colon cancer screening

Breast cancer screening (females)

Checkup methods Please select a breast ultrasound as an option.
2 Eligible ages and checkup courses Basic checkup course for persons of age 40 or older
Checkup methods Please select mammography or a breast ultrasound as an option.
3 Eligible ages and checkup courses Standard checkup course or advanced checkup course for persons of age 35 or age 40 or older
Checkup methods Please select mammography or a breast ultrasound as an option.

  Recommended national standard: mammography once every two years for persons of age 40 or older

Cervical cancer screening (females)
Eligible ages and checkup courses All ages and courses
Checkup methods Please select a pap smear as an option.

  Recommended national standard: a pap smear once every two years for persons of age 20 or older

  • Cancer screening cost: free
    • * In the case of the advanced checkup course, if the total examination costs exceed the subsidy amount due to the selected health insurance subsidy options, you will have to pay the amount that is not covered.

Undergoing “mail-based colon cancer screening” along with company in-office health checkups

In-office health checkups at the Tokyo headquarter

If you make an appointment to have an in-office health checkup at the Tokyo headquarter and are age 40 or older, please select the “fecal occult blood test” as an option.
Also note that, in the autumn, we send information on “mail-based colon cancer screening” to persons who are age 40 or older and have not had “fecal occult blood test” done, so please read it.
* The above age is as of March 31 (the end of the Japanese fiscal year).

In-office health checkups at the Yamaguchi headquarter

If you make an appointment to have an in-office “basic checkup course” checkup at the Yamaguchi headquarter and are age 40 or older, please select the “fecal occult blood test” as an option.

Undergoing cancer screening in the municipality where you live

Cancer screening in the municipalities where insured persons are registered as residents is also available.
* Please get screened for cancer either in your municipality or by the FR Health Insurance Organization.
